8 graders and 9 graders: Past Continuous

Look at these sentences:

was reading while my sister was sleeping

We were listening to the teacher when it rang.

Were they shouting while they were running?

When do we use Past Continuous?

- For a long action that happened in the past;

- A long action which was happening and interrupted by another one;

- Two actions which happened at the same time in the past.

Form:

(+)  Subject + was (singular)/ were (plural) + verb + ing

(-)   Subject + was/were + not + verb + ing

(?)  Was/ were + Subject + verb + ing
