9 graders: Past Perfect Simple
PAST PERFECT SIMPLE
Read this sentence as an example:
They had already gone to bed when she called them to warn that she had forgotten her keys.
Past Perfect is compound by HAD + Past Participle
In this sentence, in the first clause, what is the oldest action?
First, they went to bed, then she called. This oldest action is the one in the Past Perfect.
Then, if you read the rest of the sentence we have again a past perfect because, first, she forgot her keys, then she calls to warn her family.
