9C - Internet for and against essay

  Nowadays we are all connected. Internet has become an essential tool. But is it really positive to be always linked and using it all the time?

  As far as advantages are concerned, it became easier to get and gather information about anything we want. Moreover, the email was a tremendous invention as we are able to communicate for free and quickly. Furthermore, we can be so close but yet so far away from our friends.

  On the other hand, we are almost never sure who is on the other side of the screen. And spending so many hours in front of the screen is taking us time to be with our family or being face-to-face with our real friends.
Beyond all this, Internet became one more tool for bullies at school introducing cyber-bullying to the world.

  In conclusion, although Internet can be so terrible (people even lost their privacy without knowing); it can also be the best thing we have, if we know how to use it.

Example of a structured composition

Nowadays Internet is fundamental to work, mainly for teenagers. We can have online courses, search whatever we want, communicate with people through a webcam or calls. Online courses are one of the most interesting things anyone can do. But this has some advantages and some disadvantages.
E-learning has several advantages. First of all, people can choose when and for how long they want to study. Secondly, people don't have to be in a certain place at a certain time, as they can study at home or wherever they want to. Furthermore we don't have to spend money on fuel or tickets to go to a place.

On the other hand, with e-learning there is no chance of meeting other people and share ideas with them. Moreover e-learning depends totally on technology and if the computer is damaged we miss lessons.

In conclusion, I believe that e-learning helps a lot of people and can be useful to increase the culture level of a society.

Essay about providing solutions to environmental problems

Normally these type of essays are written in formal style.  Therefore, you should use linking words to link ideas and begin paragraphs.

In the first paragraph, state the problem. For instance,

Nowadays litter is a very serious problem. Unfortunetely, it's common to see people throwing litter to the ground.

The main body of the text should be to give at leat 3 solutions and their results. Let's see,

One way to avoid this is setting uo more recycling bins. This would help to reduce the number people that normally use the excuse that there was no bin nearby.

Another solution would be buying biodegradable products, which would be a way of reusing materials.

Finally, everyone should use the policy of the 3 R's, reuse, reduce and recycle, as it would become our planet a much better place to live.

The last paragraph is, as usual, the conclusion. Here, you should have a summary about your point of view:

All things considered , there are many ways to reduce litter, and  consequently reduce the pollution.

How to write a semi-formal letter

This kind of letter can be used for thank-you letters, reply to requests, complaints etc.

In this type of letters you are expected to use: fomal linking words, words/phrases in the passive form, have a respectful, polite tone and in general use some formal language.

You should begin you letter with Dear Mr.../ Dear Mrs...

In the first paragraph, the writer should explain the reason for writing.

In the main body paragraphs, should express thanks or gratitude or reasons for the complain (depending on the kind of letter you are writing.)

In the conclusion, the person should thank again or ask to have his/ her situation resolved. (again depending on the kind of letter you are writing.) 

In the end you should use Best regards, or Best wishes, and sign.

At this stage we will work with your book (page 92) and workbook (page 49).

How to write a short story

Before writing: think about the type of story and the characters

While writing:

1st parag.: Introduce “who”, “where” and “when”

Main body: describe the events in order, leading up to the climax of the story

Conclusion: describe what happened and how the character(s) felt.

After writing: read it, in order  to check your mistakes.
