11 graders: for your test

I believe you need to revise only the Passive Voice from last year but also the Conditionals.

First, the Passive Voice:

Below you can find a table of the changes from verb tense to verb tense. And underneath it you have the changes in a sentence.

PASSIVE VOICE with 2 objects

Sometimes we have sentences where you have a "who" and a "what". For instance:

Zé and Duarte bought a book to João yesterday.

book - what - direct object
João - who - indirect object

This means that you can build 2 Passive sentences!
One of them begins with the direct object and the other with the indirect object.

a) A book was bought to João yesterday.

b) João was given a book by Zé and Duarte yesterday.

b) Exercises here (in this website firstly, you have a page with explanation and in the bottom you have the chance to click for the exercises)

Now, the Conditionals:

Conditionals 1, 2 and 3

Type I – Probable situation to happen in the future

If + Present Simple + Future “will” + Infinitive
or
Future “will” + Infinitive + If + Present Simple

Examples:

If Raquel goes to the supermarket, she’ll buy some bread.
I won’t go to the beach if it rains.

Type II – Improbable situations, used to give advice

If + Past Simple + Conditional “would” + Infinitive
or
Conditional “ Would” + infinitive + if + Past Simple

Examples:

If I were you, I wouldn’t speak to them again.
I wouldn’t speak to them again if I were you.

Type III – expresses regret to something you have or haven't done; impossible, imaginary situations.

If + Past Perfect + would have + Past participle
or
Would have + past participle + if + past perfect

Examples:

If Inês had studied harder, she wouldn’t have failed the exam.
Inês wouldn’t have failed the exam if she had studied harder.

And now these:
  • As for the text you have to produce, do not forget that you must "guide your reader", so you must have at least three parts in your text (introduction, development and conclusion). The topics that we are discussing now is studying or working abroad; how you are received in the new country; how you must adjust; how do immigrants feel in a foreign country....
Then, don't forget to let old expressions go and introduce new ones.

Finally, do not forget about the words which help you enrich your text:
