How to write informal letters - 9 Form

You use informal letters to:

  • to apologize
  • to thank the person for writing
  • to change the subject
  • to ask a favour
  • before signing the letter
  • to suggest or invite
  • to ask for a reply
  • to ask for a response
  • to share some information


There are certain items that you can have in an informal letters.

  • phrasal verbs
  • I am very grateful for...
  • Why don't we...
  • I will not be able to attend the...
  • idioms and slang
  • contracted verb forms like we've, I'm, etc.
  • Give my regards to...
  • I look forward to hearing from you...
  • Let me know as soon as...
  • short sentences

Plan to write a correct informal letters:

Paragraph a) Open remarks (e.g.: Dear..../  I heard you...)
Paragraph b) Main body of the letter (subject you want to write about.
Paragraph c) Closing remarks (e.g.: Let me know as soon as possible/ Best wishes,..)
