8th year - question tags

Read these sentences:
- Peter loves ice cream, doesn't he? Rose went away, didn't she?
             (+)                          (-)                     (+)              (-)
- John doesn't smoke, does he? They won't go to the party, will they?
              (-)                   (+)                    (-)                                (+)

In these sentences you have two parts. The first part is a sentence and the second part (in blue) is a question tag. You use the question tag when you are looking for a confirmation.

Rules:
  • When the sentence is affirmative the question tag is negative. When the sentence is negative the question tag is affirmative.
  • Question tags are built with the verbs: to be, to have, to do and with modal verbs.
  • Exception: with I am we have an irregular tag:
I am right, aren't I? and I am not right, am I?
