How to sum up a book

All my students were asked to read a book. As I said before, you are going to present your book to your classmates.

You are going to have 7' to 10' (8 and 9 forms) and 10' to 15' (10 form)

You must speak about:

1) The story in general
2) Main characters
3) Moment of the story you most enjoyed
4) Explain why would you recommend (or not) the book

Tips:

A)
Pick an appropriate book.  The most important criteria is to choose a book at the correct reading grade level.

B)
Make sure you know what the teacher wants. How long will it be? What must it include?
Follow the assignment.

C)
Read the first chapter. Write three/four sentences to summarize the first chapter; two to describe the main characters introduced in the chapter, the setting and any other important details, and the other two sentences to describe what happened in the chapter.

D)
For every other chapter, write one to three sentences summarizing the chapter. Be sure to talk about the action and characters. What did they do and why? What happened or developed? What new things did you learn about the characters?

E)
Add all of your summaries onto one paper. You should organize it into paragraphs according to the sections of the story, or the beginning, middle and end.

G)
In case you choose to use PPT's in your presentation remember that you should have pictures instead of text in your slides. Of course, you can write one or two main words.

I)
You can bring objects, music or other elements that might help you during your 10 minutes.

J)
Do not panic during your presentation. If cannot remember what you have to say, simply say that you need a moment and carry on.

K)
Rehearsal is fundamental. Present your work at home alone, to your siblings, to your mum and to your dad. By the time you get to class, you are completely secure and ready!

Hey teacher, I haven't picked a book yet, since I didn't like that much the ones that were in the school library, and the ones I have at home are mostly from my dad and they're too hard. What should I do?

Hello Helena
In that case, you can search for a different book in a book shop or you can search for a good short story in the WWW.
